Having just finished my first year of a PhD at the Victorian College of Arts, Melbourne Uni – I am really proud to share a few of my latest artworks in the medium of Cloth-Art.
Cloth-Art is a form of textile art that incorporates appliqué quilting techniques with drawing and painting to create figurative wall-hangings. My grandmother artist Dawn Fitzpatrick innovated this style of working in the late 70’s and continued to work in this medium for the majority of her artistic career. Having inherited this practice from her, I am now exploring the potential of this practice to be used as a methodology for socially engaged practice-led research. Alongside my PhD research I will continue to develop my own practice as a textile artist and Craftivist – which is my new favourite word!
I would love to hear what you think of my Cloth-Art hangings so please leave your comments below, I hope you like them as much as I love making them.
